We are a few months into the new year, and it is high time to do a review of where you are in your health goals. Were you able to maintain your New Year’s resolution? Or are you planning to reset and assess your goals and start over again? If yes, then here are some of the health goals that you can easily stick to:
Choose Better Desserts
We all have times when we crave sweets. It is okay to give in to the craving sometimes, but you have to choose wisely. Grab a sweet dessert and mix it with healthy items like nuts or seeds. Rather than grabbing a chocolate bar, it would be better to choose dark chocolate covered almonds. You can also have a chocolate-dipped banana instead. When you slowly remove refined sugar and excess fat from your diet, then you also reduce your risk of developing hypertension and high cholesterol.
Have Proper Posture
If you’re stuck in the office the whole day, then you should at least practice proper posture by sitting correctly. If you find yourself sitting with your back curved into a C-shape, then you need to make a conscious effort to adjust your position. Sitting in a C-shape puts a strain on your spine that can cause you to suffer from low back pains. Sit properly by untucking your pelvis and elongating your spine. You may also adjust your chair to have your feet resting flat on the floor.
Stick to a Sleeping Schedule
Part of your health goals should be getting adequate sleep. A large percentage of people don’t get at least seven hours of good, quality sleep. Make it a point to get the required hours of sleep by sticking to a schedule and slowly easing into a routine. Start by setting an alarm to at least one hour before your actual sleeping time and begin your winding down routine. When the alarm goes off, you can use it as a notice to turn off the television or mobile device and dim the lights. Drink herbal tea if you find that comforting.
Try Walking One Mile
Engaging in physical activity, no matter how light it is, should be part of your routine. If you don’t like to work out you should walk at least one mile every time you go out. If you are headed to grab breakfast, walk instead of using your car. Walking has health benefits. It improves the mood and can help reduce the incidence of heart disease. Plus, you are also doing your part in cutting down greenhouse gas emissions.
Be Mindful of What You Eat
If you plan to lose weight, you can’t rely on dieting. It is unsustainable. Before you know it, you are already failing big time. The best way to eat better is to be mindful of what you eat and never ignore your hunger. If you are hungry, eat healthy foods. But don’t binge. You can take small bites and drink water in between. Then, mid-meal, assess if you are already full or not. Once you have an awareness of your gut, you will have more inclination to eat healthily.
Engage in Self Improvement
Health should also include mental functions. Part of this is engaging in activities that promote self-improvement, such as enrolling in CPR classes from reputable training centers like Newcastle Training or going to yoga classes.
When you have achievable goals, it is easier to stick to them. Remember, the key to achieving your health goals is by celebrating small wins.
