A lot of people find losing weight difficult, but if you are overweight and you need to lose some extra pounds for your health, or just for your own comfort, then it could certainly be something on your list of things to do. If you want to lose weight then it’s important to understand the parts of this process that are difficult for you, as they will vary from person to person.
Something that a lot of people have trouble with is snacking. They might eat normally at mealtimes, but they might snack or ‘graze’ a lot during the day in between meals, and this is what could be causing any weight gain problems. The key is to stop snacking, but this has usually become a habit and is hard to do. If you can take your mind of snacking, then you will soon be able to break the habit and become healthier – here are some tips to do it.
Go Out
You won’t be able to do this every time you want a snack as it will become very expensive, but on occasion you can go out somewhere that doesn’t allow you to eat, and you won’t be able to snack. Buying family theater tickets and heading to see a show will mean you can’t snack, for example. Driving somewhere means you can’t snack as you need to concentrate on what you are doing. Attending a meeting means no snacking.
There are many different places you can go that mean you can’t or at the very least shouldn’t have a snack. If you don’t take anything with you and there is nowhere to buy anything when you arrive, you’ll have to forego your extra meal and that is a good start.
Don’t Buy Snacks
Perhaps one of the most obvious ways to avoid having snacks is to not have them in the house. Only buy what you need for your three meals a day, and have some fruit and other healthy food in reserves for when you get hungry in between meals.
If there are simply no chips, cookies, or other treats in the house at all, then you won’t be able to eat them. If you have to go out and buy some snacks, then this will give you pause to think about what you are doing and ideally stop yourself before you leave.
Have A Drink
Did you know that many times when you think you are hungry you’re really becoming dehydrated? The body is trying to send you a message, but it is getting confused. So, when you are feeling peckish in between meals, don’t automatically reach for a snack; try having a glass of water first. If the ‘hunger’ subsides then it was actually thirst. If not and you’re still hungry, try a piece of fruit before you eat anything with high calories and lots of sugar. Fruit has natural sugars within it, and if you’re craving something sweet, an apple or some strawberries can help soothe that craving.
