On another note, as vegans, it is difficult to get all of the nutrition we need from foods. Specifically, it's hard for us to get adequate vitamin A (retinol), vitamin D3, vitamin B12, biotin, calcium, iron, zinc, iodine, and selenium.
I've never discussed my views on supplementation before, but I feel like this is a good opportunity to share.
After getting my PhD in nutrition, I've done lots of research on supplementation.
Many brands of vitamins for vegans don't actually provide the right nutrient balance. I hadn't encountered a brand that I actually felt strongly about until I found this one: OptiVego. It is most definitely the BEST one on the market.
A friend of mine, Dr. Carsten Smidt, is the brains behind this amazing supplement. He's been researching multivitamins for over 25 years!!!
He's come up with 5 essential things to look for in a vegan multivitamin - OptiVego checks all of these boxes!
1. Certified vegan
- Must have "certified vegan" logo on the bottle
2. Fills in nutrient gaps of vegan diets
- The multivitamin must contain all of the nutrients I mentioned earlier (vitamin A (retinol), vitamin D3, vitamin B12, biotin, calcium, iron, zinc, iodine, and selenium).
3. No unsafe mega-doses
- Too much of certain vitamins and minerals are unnecessary and sometimes can be harmful!
4. High bioavailability
- Ingredients that are poorly absorbable are CHEAP! That's why manufacturers use them. Here are some "red flag" ingredients: folic acid, magnesium oxide, zinc oxide, or “whole food” blends (these are just marketing gimmicks).
5. Easy on your stomach
- Poorly absorbed nutrients are the ones that are tough on the stomach. Usually this happens from minerals. The best forms of minerals for the stomach are glycinate chelates, malates, or citrates.
I highly recommend OptiVego if you are looking for a way to make sure you get all of your nutritional needs while maintaining a vegan diet.

Hi Susan! I didn't test it in the oven, but I've had success baking tofu before! I would try baking at 400F for 30 minutes, and check the consistency. You might need to do a little longer than that, depending on your preferences. Thank you so much!
