If anyone had ever told me that a carrot could taste like a hot dog before I tried these, I would have told them they were crazy!
Throw one of these in a bun, add ketchup and mustard, and you have yourself a seriously delicious vegan hot dog. I had this for dinner last night and I felt like a kid again. YUM.

Their sweet taste makes them both nourishing and neutral, meaning they are good for all body types.

Well I'll be damned! I tried this because it intrigued me so much, and I really liked it! My hot dogs end up being big sandwiches, with added cheese and onions and sometimes tomatoes or lettuce, and these carrot sausages fit right in. To make again, I love that now I can 'beef up' a sandwich when I have no meat at home or don't want to buy any (I'm leaning towards being vegetarian but am not).

I'm so glad you liked these. Yes, I was pretty shocked at how meat-like they tasted! Not exact of course, but close. 🙂

Wow! These were fun. I am making the transition to a plant based diet and I love this recipe. Next time I make them I'll have a big batch of veggie chili ready to smother them in!
Annie
Yum! That sounds delicious! I am working on a chili recipe in the next few days actually. I love chili!
Jessica
I do have a question, is the marinade not supposed to cover the carrots completely?
Annie
Hey Jessica! It's ok if it doesn't - I would just shake the container every now and then 🙂
Kevin
Marinade in the fridge?
Annie
Hi Kevin! Yes, the fridge 🙂

I made this today with a simple black bean chili, mustard, cilantro, and jalapenos on top. WOW, it was amazing! My daughter, who hates cooked carrots ate it and loved it too. What a great idea, thanks!
Annie
That makes me so happy to hear! So glad y'all enjoyed 🙂 This recipe is one of my all-time favorites!

Hi Annie. great idea! But, big concern is the Liquid smoke. Doesn't it have ingredients that are known to be carcinogenic?? Do you have a resource for a natural organic brand, without chemicals that are harmful? Thanks!
Annie
That is a great point, and I haven't actually looked into that much. This brand only uses liquid smoke as an ingredient: http://www.amazon.com/Lazy-Kettle-All-Natural-Liquid-Smoke/dp/B000I552GE
There is such a small amount in this recipe, that it doesn't concern me (I only have this recipe once in a while, and not every single day, or else it probably would concern me!).
Thanks so much for your comment, Suzanne! Great point!

I was curious about this recipe, and finally tried it for dinner tonight. Wow...I really felt like I was eating a hot dog! It was so meat-like that I had to keep reminding myself that I was eating a carrot. It tasted delicious too, and your instructions worked perfectly. Thanks for the great recipe!

Holy moly these were so good! We were so hesitant because we used to be big hotdog fans before going vegan and we were worried they'd disappoint. They did not!!! My husband threw them on the grill for warming, So yummy and a new staple for BBQ nights at our place!
