The stuff you get from the store is not very healthy (but it sure tastes pretty darn delicious!).
I noticed that the first ingredient of some of the most popular brands is high fructose corn syrup! Ugh. WHY.
Anyway I've always loved a good barbecue sauce but I kind of stopped eating it once I decided that I didn't want to waste any of my daily calorie budget on sugar-laden, high calorie sauce. I'd rather have a brownie or two for dessert instead!
So. I'm not sure why it took me this long, but I decided there had to be a way to make a healthier, sugar-free, low-calorie version of barbecue sauce... I started dreaming of BBQ tofu sandwiches (I'm pretty sure only a vegan would ever say something like that) and BBQ tofu pizza slathered in a perfect, thick, sweet and tangy barbecue sauce, and instantly, creating this BBQ sauce recipe skyrocketed to the top of my priority list.
And that, my friends, is how this healthy, sugar-free, low-carb, oil-free, low-calorie BBQ sauce was born.
It's soooo easy to make. Just whisk everything together, throw it in a saucepan if you want to thicken it, and voila - DONE! You have yourself some healthy, delicious, perfectly sweet yet sugar-free barbecue sauce.
WAY better than any of the crap (excuse my French) you'll find in a grocery store.
